Around 40 people gathered at the Greater St. John’s Baptist Church in Turner Station last Sunday for Sunday Supper, a community dinner hosted by Dundalk-based non-profit Neighborhood Companions.

The evening was a first for the organization, as the Greater Saint John’s is the first of a number of planned churches to host the dinner.

As attendees filed in, they made themselves at home around two long tables, which were spotted with floral arrangements and place settings. Before supper was served, Neigborhood Companions founder Arkia Wade called the guests in for prayer, which was led by three deacons from Greater St. John’s: Deacon Juanita, Deacon Pitts and Deacon Oliver.

“On behalf of the great Saint John, which we affectionately call the ‘G’ here, we welcome you to the second Sunday Supper,” Deacon Pitts said.

The event’s menu was comprised of a starter salad, string beans, rice, fried chicken and baked fish, with banana pudding provided by an attendee for dessert.
